After Shaheen Shah Afridi’s stunning performance against Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on February 26, former South African bowler Dale Steyn poured admiration on the Lahore Qalandars captain.

Lahore got off to the best possible start against Peshawar thanks to Shaheen. In the second ball of his first over, captain Shaheen knocked out Mohammad Haris with a magnificent yorker.

In his second over, the left-arm pacer struck once more, destroying Peshawar’s captain Babar Azam with an exquisite inswinging delivery. Babar was forced to leave after just scoring seven runs.

Steyn praised the pacer’s wrist after Shaheen’s excellent stint and exhorted future fast bowlers to observe the Pakistani pacer to learn how to quicken their delivery.

He wrote on Twitter, “Shaheens wrist is amazing! The bend & flick he has is so special and a area where many young fast bowlers could look to find their extra yard of pace they searching for,”

“Few drills one could try, but if you’re over 25 I’m sorry but it may already be too late. Still worth a try.”

It is important to note that Shaheen finished the match with five wickets.

After deciding to bat first, Lahore set a massive 242-run goal, which was then chased down by Peshawar in 20 overs, due to some outstanding hitting from Fakhar and Abdullah Shafique as well as a five-wicket haul from Shaheen.

After losing both openers and facing a large total, Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore provided a solid partnership for Peshawar.

Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore put together a stunning 91-run partnership off only 44 balls after Babar’s departure.

Cadmore scored a scorching 55 runs off just 23 balls before being removed by Haris Rauf.

Saim was the next hitter to bat out and was caught by Abdullah Shafique as he attempted to take on Rashid Khan. A vital 51 runs in 34 balls were scored by a left-handed batter.

After a 39-run partnership between Bhanuka Rajapaksa (24) and Rovman Powell (20), Peshawar was reduced to 166-5 when the Sri Lankan batter was dismissed by Zaman Khan.

In the same over, Zaman struck again by bowling Powell out with a sluggish delivery.

On his third over, Shaheen took his third wicket. Wahab Riaz was instructed to return to the pavilion for a duck.

On his final over, the left-armer scored another wicket, tossing Saad Masood’s with a fierce delivery.

James Neesham (12), who attempted to challenge the pacer but was ultimately caught behind, was the final victim of Shaheen’s five-wicket haul.
