A rescue crew from New Jersey went down a rocky crack inside a New York state park to free a dog who had been trapped for five days.

Specialist cave rescuers collaborated with the Ulster County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Minnewaska State Park Preserve forest rangers to organize the rescue of a dog who slipped into a tight crack at the park, according to the New Jersey Initial Response Team.

According to the NJIRT (New Jersey Initial Response Team), the 12-year-old dog named Liza was walking with her owner in the park when she became disoriented and fell into the opening. Although the owner couldn’t see the dog inside the cave, he heard hear Liza barking.

Two rescue team members climbed more than 40 feet into the gap and used a plumbing camera to locate Liza. They reached Liza and lifted her to safety using a modified, extended catchpole.

Liza had been without food or water for five days, according to the NJIRT, although she was not seriously injured.
