The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that Costco has recalled around 400,000 of the Solar LED Market Umbrellas manufactured by SunVilla Corporation.

On June 23, the commission announced the recall, stating that it also affected an additional 33,000 Canadian-sold umbrellas.

The lithium-ion batteries in the solar panels on the umbrella may overheat, leading to a fire or potentially dangerous burns, claims the article.

According to the commission, there have been at least six reports of the batteries overheating. The solar panels indoors caught fire in three incidents. There has also been one case of smoke inhalation harm documented.

The recall affects all 10-inch Solar LED Market Umbrellas, which Costco has only sold since December 2020. Before discontinuing the product in May, Costco had been selling the umbrellas all over the country in their warehouses and online.

All buyers of these umbrellas are urged by the commission to stop using them right once and take off the solar panel puck that houses the lithium-ion battery. The panel at the top of the umbrellas has a black cover with the words “YEEZE” or “YEEZE 1” written on it.

The included AC adaptor should not be used by customers to charge the puck. Additionally, they need to keep the puck cool and out of the sun and any combustible items.

All known customers who have purchased the umbrella are currently being contacted by Costco and SunVilla. A comment from TODAY was not immediately responded to by Costco.

A 10-inch Solar LED Market Umbrella purchased by any client may be returned, along with the puck, to any Costco Warehouse for a full refund.

Customers can contact Costco to get information on their refund if they are unable to visit a store in person.
