In the past week, Pakistan has witnessed a notable decrease in the retail price of cement across the country. According to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the average retail price of cement per bag in the northern regions stood at Rs 1232 in the week ending January 18.

This reflects a 0.53% decrease compared to the previous week, when the average retail price was Rs 1238 per sack.

Similarly, in the southern regions of the country, the average retail price of cement per sack was recorded at Rs 1188 during the same period, reflecting a 0.27% decrease from the previous week, when it was Rs 1191 per bag.

The regional breakdown further reveals varying prices, with cities like Islamabad, Lahore, and Faisalabad reporting different figures ranging from Rs 1199 to Rs 1280 per sack.

Furthermore, cities in the southern regions, including Karachi and Hyderabad, reported average retail prices per sack ranging from Rs 1172 to Rs 1180. Other cities such as Sukkur, Larkana, Quetta, and Khuzdar also exhibited different price points in the given time frame.

Interestingly, a contrasting trend has been observed in the sulfur market due to an increase in the value of the rupee. The price of sulfur per ton has seen a significant decrease, dropping from Rs 3 lakh 5 thousand to Rs 2 lakh 45 thousand, according to traders.

Presently, the market indicates a price of Rs 2 lakh 45 thousand per ton for local sulfur, while branded sulfur ranges from Rs 2 lakh 63 thousand to Rs 2 lakh 65 thousand per ton.

This fluctuation in cement and sulfur prices reflects the dynamic nature of the market, influenced by various economic factors such as currency value and supply-demand dynamics.

It remains to be seen how these trends will evolve in the coming weeks, impacting both consumers and businesses in the construction and industrial sectors.
