WhatsApp for Android to get latest Meta AI feature
WhatsApp for Android is reportedly preparing to introduce a new feature allowing its built-in AI chatbot, Meta AI, to edit and respond to images. According to WABetaInfo, a platform tracking app updates, this feature is currently in development and not yet visible to beta program participants.
The upcoming Meta AI capability will utilize Meta’s latest large language model, Llama 3, and will include privacy controls to safeguard images.
However, the release date for these enhancements has not been disclosed.
The new functionality was identified in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.14.20.
Currently, the AI chatbot can only respond to text messages. With the new feature, users will be able to upload an image and ask the AI questions about it.
This feature mirrors capabilities already seen on platforms such as Gemini AI and ChatGPT.
Another significant addition will enable Meta AI to make edits to images. While details on specific editing capabilities are scarce, it is expected to support basic adjustments like lighting enhancement, cropping, and object removal.
Advanced editing features such as background changes and effects, similar to Pixel smartphones’ Magic Editor, may also be included.
Reports also suggest that photos submitted to Meta AI will undergo analysis, potentially including facial recognition. Users will retain control over their images and can delete them at any time.
However, it remains unclear whether deleting an image will remove it from Meta AI’s database.
