KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced Monday a gas discovery from its Dolphin X-1 exploration well in the Sirani Exploration License area located in Sindh Province.

The discovery has confirmed a new petroleum system and opened a fresh exploration frontier across the onshore marshy region and its potential extensions into shallow offshore waters, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced Monday.

The Dolphin X-1 exploration well, located in District Sujawat within the Sirani Exploration License area, was spudded on April 17, 2026, and drilled to 3,850 meters to test the hydrocarbon potential of the Chiltan Formation.

PPL, the operator with a 75% working interest, said post-acid testing of the formation yielded gas flowing at a rate of 0.942 million standard cubic feet per day with a heating value of approximately 1,000 Btu/scf.

During pre-acid testing, condensate surfaced at an initial rate of 94 barrels per day before declining to 46 barrels per day within 24 hours. No condensate was observed during subsequent post-acid testing, though the company described the initial encounter as an encouraging indication for further evaluation.

Government Holdings (Private) Limited holds the remaining 25% working interest in the joint venture.
