Public transport fares have reduced across Punjab following a drop in petrol prices announced on January 1.
The federal government’s recent move to lower petroleum prices is providing direct relief to daily commuters, especially those traveling on inter-district bus services.
The Punjab Transport Department announced fare reductions on several routes, with savings ranging from Rs60 to Rs180 depending on the distance.
Rana Mohsin, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), confirmed that bus fares from Lahore to major cities have been revised. For instance, trips to Islamabad are now Rs1,850, down from Rs1,910. Northern destinations like Murree and Peshawar have also seen reductions, with fares now set at Rs2,290 and Rs2,530, respectively.
Other northern cities, including Mansehra and Abbottabad, now have fares of Rs2,420 and Rs2,240. Central and southern routes have also received cuts: Faisalabad-bound passengers pay Rs980 instead of Rs1,010, Multan trips are now Rs1,650, and travelers to Sadiqabad will pay Rs2,430.
Long-distance journeys have also been adjusted, with fares from Lahore to Karachi falling from Rs5,800 to Rs5,620, and Lahore to Sukkur reduced from Rs3,510 to Rs3,400.
These fare revisions come after a reduction of Rs10.28 per litre in petrol and Rs8.57 per litre in high-speed diesel, effective from January 1, 2026. Officials said the move is intended to pass the benefits of lower fuel prices directly to the public, offering immediate relief for commuters across Punjab.
