COAS calls Speaker NA, wished for speedy recovery from Coronavirus
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday called Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and inquired about his health. According to details, the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa telephoned NA speaker and prayed for his early recovery as Asad Qaiser is suffering from Coronavirus. Asad Qaiser in response thanked Army Chief for his wishes and prayers.
Obama criticizes Trump over his response to coronavirus crisis
Former US President Barack Obama has criticized Donald Trump over the ongoing coronavirus crisis in the US, calling it an “an absolute chaotic disaster”. The US has the highest number of cases in the world. There are 1,347,318 confirmed cases out of which 80, 040 people have died whereas 238, 080 people have recovered. The number of active cases is 1,029,198. However, the White House responded to the commented and said that Trump’s “unprecedented” action had “saved Americans’ lives”.
Preventive measures more important now than ever, says Asad Umar
Planning Minister Asad Umar has said that the government will seal areas that have been identified as the “hotspots” of the coronavirus. During a press briefing Planning Minister Asad Umar said virus “hotspots” are now being identified through latest data and technology. He briefed the media on the measures that are being taken or are in the pipe based on data analysed by the National Command and Operation Centre.
Dr. Fauci begins with modified quarantine, will work from home
Dr Anthony Fauci, a key member of the White House COVID-19 task force, has announced to enter a ‘modified quarantine’ as he came in contact with a staffer at White House who contracted Coronavirus. Dr Anthony Fauci told media officials that he will work from home and will wear mask for 14 days to avoid the spread of the virus. The Physician said that he had been tested for the coronavirus already and the result was negative.
UK to launch Covid-19 alert system to check the level of virus
UK Government is launching a Covid-19 alert system in England to track the virus. According to details, the threat level of coronavirus will be measure on a scale of one to five and be adjusted as per the data. Prime Minister Boris Johnson will address the country today in which he is likely to announce the Covid-19 alert system. He will tell the people to “stay alert, control the virus, save lives”. He will tell the public that the UK is entering the most “dangerous’ stage to fight against Coronavirus.
Emirates to raise debt as the travel recovery is 18 months away
Dubai-owned airlines, Emirates decides to raise debt in order to help through Coronavirus crisis that has grappled almost every business including global travel. Emirates also warned that the recovery to overcome economic disasters will take at least 18 months. It also reported a 21% profit rise for its financial year. Emirates, however, did not mention how much debt it would raise. The airline suspended regular passenger flights in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
CM Punjab directs to follow SOPs to prevent spread of COVID 19
Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Sunday has directed to strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) prepared by the provincial government to prevent the spread of coronavirus. As per details, in a statement, the CM said that those violating the SOPs and lockdown would not be spared. He said that we have to take precautionary measures to deal with pandemic. It is to be mentioned here that Pakistan has confirmed 21 more deaths from novel coronavirus as the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 639 and positive cases to 29,465.
Coronavirus: Pakistan’s death tally hits 640
At least two more people died of coronavirus each in Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday. The total death toll due to the virus across the country has reached 640. As per details, so far the number of deaths in the capital are now five, while GB has recorded four deaths. The government’s official portal confirmed that 48 new cases emerged in Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir collectively. In Islamabad, 32 cases confirmed while GB has reported nine new cases. AJK has detected seven new cases. Besides, 214 patients have recovered taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 8,023.
Nagar becomes Coronavirus Free district of Gilgit Baltistan
Nagar, the hardest hit area in Gilgit Baltistan has now become corona free district as last patient was discharged from the isolation centre. As per details, health officials said that now there is no patient of coronavirus in the district. Nagar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahrukh Cheema said that they had zero positive case in the district. “After 53-day untiring efforts, we made it possible,” he added. The deputy commissioner said still people needed to follow Covid-19 safety protocol. More than 100 Covid-19 cases were reported in the district since March.
Business Sectors in Sindh Will Reopen From Tomorrow, May 11
Whilst the ongoing Coronavirus lockdown, the traders’ community announced to open markets on May 11, after Prime Minister Imran Khan had issued his plan to lift lockdown from Saturday, May 9. However, Sindh Chief Minister has called meeting with traders today regarding to open business in Karachi from Monday. According to details, the meeting is called in Chief Minister House in Karachi today. All chiefs of traders’ community have been invited in the meeting. Sources said that business community are with strict opinion to open business in Karachi from Monday (17th of Ramadan) with all SOPs.
3 children died in US from a rare disease linked to Coronavirus
Three children in New York have died from a rare inflammatory disease, may link to the novel Coronavirus, told Governor Andrew Cuomoa in a daily briefing. The Governor disclosed about the death a of a young child linking to the Coronavirus. He also told about the syndrome that shares symptoms with Kawasaki disease.

IMF Chief warns US-China trade war will weaken global economy
The International Monetary Fund IMF Chief has warned the US and China against rekindling a trade war that could weaken a recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. IMF Chief Kristalina Georgieva, told that economy of United States has been particularly hard hit by widespread shutdowns aimed at containing the virus. US government data on Friday showed the unemployment rate surging to 14.7 percent last month. The White House said joblessness could hit 20 percent in May.
Lockdown in Punjab to be relaxed for four days a week
Punjab’s Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan has announced that lockdown will be relaxed for four days a week-Monday to Thursday. During these days, shops and markets will be allowed to reopen.
However, Fayyaz Chohan has also said that complete lockdown will be followed from Friday to Sunday every week. He also said that mega shopping centers and plazas would remain closed each day. He said that notifications will be issued soon.
Coronavirus: 300,000 people quit smoking
London: More than 300,000 people quit smoking as a result of the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
