SHC summons Humayyun Saeed for delivering offensive dialogues in drama serial MPTH
The Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered actor Humayyun Saeed on Wednesday.
The SHC wants Humayyun Saeed to explain why he delivered offensive and sexist dialogues in the recently concluded drama serial ‘Mere Pass Tum Ho’.
According to local media reports, a petition by Sana Saleem filed against Humayyun Saeed and MPTH’s writer.
She alleged that the script routinely spotlighted offensive dialogues about women and wants an apology to the public for the same by MPTH’s writer, actor and producer.
While summoning Saeed, the actor who said the degrading dialogue, the court has instructed the federal government, PEMRA and other respondents to submit their replies.
The hearing was adjourned to February 13.
Besides language, the petitioner has also objected for showing a divorced couple living together without Nikkah and a six-year-old playing matchmaker between his father and a school teacher.
Lawyers on behalf of PEMRA and ARY Digital were also present in court.
The court questioned PEMRA’s representative regarding whether they have a way of monitoring dramas through in-house censors.
PEMRA’s lawyer responded that they have a separate forum to do so, keeping in mind their policy that language and visuals in dramas should be within the moral code of society.
This is not the first time someone has approached a court against the popular drama.
On January 22, a woman filed a petition in a Lahore civil court to stop the show’s finale from airing.
She alleged that the drama has shown women in negative light.
The petitioner, Maham Chaudhry stated that the drama serial had continuously insulted women, showing them to be worthless in society.
She added that it has not been of benefit to Pakistani women.
She filed a plea to halt the last episode of the serial.
The drama serial featured Ayeza Khan, Humayyun Saeed, Hira Mani, Adnan Siddiqui and others.
In the petition, the lady has stated that the drama had put negative impact on the Pakistani women.
It also continued to downgrade the women in our society.
The court, after hearing the arguments of Maham, had issued notices to the concerned for January 24, 2020.
