Renowned TV, film and stage artist Nighat Butt died in Lahore yesterday.
The stage actor suffered a stroke. She was 72 years old.
Nighat Butt has worked in Showbiz for around three decades.
The actor was facing financial crisis and medical complexities. She died at a local hospital.
She was mentally and physically ill, and was having diabetes as well as blood pressure. Several showbiz figures had requested Punjab government to help her financially.
Nighat’s husband Abid Butt was also an actor. He passed away four years ago.
She had given exceptional performances in various TV plays including Pyaas, Landa Bazaar, Khwahish and Waris.
She had done a lot of work as an actor in early and mid-1960s.
Actor Masood Akhtar said to media, “We acted in many stage plays in 1966 with towering stage personalities such as Kamal Ahmed Rizvi, Dr Enver Sajjad and Rasheed Umar Thanvi”.
Popular figures including Qavi Khan had shown grief over her death. He said that Nighat Butt was a good actress and has performed well in initial years at PTV.
He also said that there should be Artists Welfare Fund to protect and save such artists from financial crisis.
