Blair Underwood is engaged!

The 58-year-old actor posted on Instagram on Tuesday that he had asked his longtime friend and now girlfriend, Josie Hart, to marry him.

“My personal highlight was walking the red carpet with my new fiancée Josie Hart,” he wrote in the caption of a photo of him and Hart on the red carpet. “The most amazing, smart, beautiful, funny, thought-provoking, and wise person I know who lives life out loud all the time. Girl, the future is so bright it’s crazy! We can never be sure where God will lead us.”

Underwood kept going, “She’s been there for me since before I was an actor. When a 41-year friendship smacks you upside the head and turns into love, you stand up, pay attention, and take a step forward to show your gratitude. Move forward slowly. It starts! #trinilife”
Before Underwood started dating Hart, the actor was married to Desiree DaCosta. He is known for his roles in Dear White People, Sex and the City, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Quantico.

During their 27-year marriage, they had three children: Paris, 25, Blake, 21, and Brielle, 23. In May 2021, they said in a joint statement that they were getting divorced.

Even though it’s not clear how long Underwood and Hart have been dating, the couple’s friends were thrilled to hear that they were getting engaged and wrote congrats in his comments.

“Someone call 9-1-1! I’m having trouble breathing and I can’t feel my heart beating anymore,” Sherri Shepherd wrote. She later added, “Okay, I’m back to life! Congratulations, Blair and Josie! I’m glad someone is on your side.”
