The block-stacking video game Tetris gained worldwide acclaim, and the biographical movie Tetris explores the tale of how it came to be. Welsh actor Taron Egerton will play businessman Henk Rogers in the movie.

Toby Jones appears in the Apple TV+ film Tetris along with the Kingsman star. The movie from had its SXSW premiere on March 15, 2023, and it’ll start streaming on March 31.

Egerton plays Henk Rogers, a Dutch video game designer who fought for the permission to release Tetris in the 1980s on consoles where it became popular. He later established The Tetris Company, which grants rights for the use of the Tetris name. He was instrumental in settling the licence disputes that led to Tetris’ release on the Game Boy.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the story behind the film Egerton said:

“It’s an extraordinary story involving lots of different factions from all over the world, all pursuing this incredibly property.”

“Tetris is a cultural zeitgeist and it’s quite exciting to think that the backstory to this phenomenon will finally get its moment in the sunlight,” Egerton continued.

The 2023 biographical drama film Tetris was created by Noah Pink and directed by Jon S. Baird. Taron Egerton and Toby Jones both appear in the movie.
