Netflix has set the stage for an exciting premiere with its upcoming Korean original series, “The 8 Show,” featuring acclaimed actors Ryu Jun-yeol and Chun Woo-hee. Scheduled to grace screens on May 17, the series promises to deliver a thrilling narrative that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Accompanying the announcement of the release date, Netflix treated fans to a tantalizing glimpse of the show through a new poster and teaser unveiled on April 11. Directed by Han Jae-rim, “The 8 Show” is a comedy series that revolves around eight individuals facing financial hardships. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they participate in a reality competition offering a substantial cash prize.
Trapped in a mysterious eight-story building, the contestants embark on a risky game that escalates in intensity over time. Netflix teased the plot, stating, “Under the simple rules, they experience rollercoaster rides of emotions as they repeatedly face cooperation, conflicts, and betrayals within a mysterious space divided into eight floors.”
The stellar cast, including Park Jeong-Min, Park Hae-joon, Lee Yul-eum, Lee Joo-young, Bae Seong-woo, and Moon Jeong-hee, adds depth to the series. “The 8 Show” draws inspiration from the popular webtoon “Money Game” and its sequel “Pie Game” by Bae Jin-soo.
Marking Han’s debut as a series director, “The 8 Show” is poised to offer compelling visuals and gripping storytelling. With Han’s notable background in acclaimed films such as “The Face Reader” and “Emergency Declaration,” viewers can expect a riveting viewing experience.
