Willem Dafoe, a four-time Oscar nominee, is presently negotiating his third project with horror master Robert Eggers. Dafoe is reportedly being considered for a part in Eggers’ reimagining of the well-known horror film Nosferatu, according to Deadline. Except for his feature directorial debut The Witch, Dafoe has appeared in every one of Eggers’ full-length movies (2015). The two movies they did work on together, The Lighthouse and The Northman, were very well appreciated, so it’s understandable why Eggers would want Dafoe back to appear in what he has publicly acknowledged as his passion project and about which he has admitted to being obsessed since boyhood.

Nosferatu, a remake of the silent film era’s greatest horror film, will have Eggers’ expert touch improve its spooky tone. The movie will, however, stay true to the fundamentals of the original plot, which centers on the titular ancient Transylvanian vampire who becomes fixated on a teenager, stalks her, and inflicts unspeakable agony on her. The movie will take place in 19th-century Germany, just like the original. Dafoe, who has delivered some of the nastiest performances in film, won’t be playing the movie’s title bloodsucker.

Instead, Bill Skarsgard (It), who was among the first cast members to be revealed, will play that part alongside Lily-Rose Depp, who will play his target. Fortunately, Nosferatu has no shortage of villains, and those who have enjoyed Dafoe’s menacing performances will be hoping that he gets to play one once more. Crossing our fingers because his role is still uncertain.

In the 2000 film Shadow of the Vampire, which was created as a dramatized depiction of what transpired on the original film’s set after it sparked controversy for being an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula, Dafoe was notable for playing the legendary vampire. Dafoe received his second Academy Award nomination for his outstanding portrayal of German actor Max Schreck, who played Count Orlok in Nosferatu.

Dafoe recently had a strong performance as a delusional lighthouse keeper in Eggers’ The Lighthouse (2019). He also played the villain in the movies Wild at Heart, Boondock Saints, American Psycho, and eXistenZ. As the supervillain Green Goblin in Spider-Man movies, most recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dafoe is also well-recognized (2021). The Inside, Asteroid City, Poor Things, Gonzo Girl, Finalmente, and And Nosferatu, a Focus Features production with Eggers writing and directing, are among the latest films for which the Golden Globe and BAFTA contender just wrapped up filming. Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus, John Graham, Jeff Robinov, and Robert Eggers are among the producers.
