Legendary West Coast house music producer DJ Dan has passed away at the age of 57, his representative confirmed in a statement to Billboard on Sunday, March 29.
Born Daniel Wherrett, the influential artist was widely regarded as a pioneer in American electronic music. In an emotional statement, his team expressed “profound sorrow” while honoring his lasting impact on the global music scene.
“He leaves behind not just a discography, but a culture a way of feeling music that touched millions across four decades and five continents,” the statement read. “He often said his purpose in life was to heal through music.”
The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
DJ Dan was scheduled to perform at an event in Nevada on Saturday, March 28, but did not appear, leading organizers to cancel the show.
Over the course of his career, he released several notable projects, including Funk the System, Beats 4 Freaks, and Future Retro, helping shape the sound of West Coast house music and inspiring generations of DJs and producers worldwide.
