Naughty Dog’s last major project, The Last of Us Part 2, was released just over a year ago, so probably not going to see something from Naughty Dog for the foreseeable future. However, there are always questions about what they’ll be working on next. One can’t help but wonder, especially with a studio like Naughty Dog, if they’ll stick to the amazing IP they’ve already created or try something completely new, which is just as fascinating, if not more so.

According to Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells, the company will deliver a mix of the two. Though there is some “excitement” about producing a new IP, Wells told Game Informer that Naughty Dog still has “a ton of love” for games like Uncharted and The Last of Us.

“I think the easy answer is: both,” Wells said. “I think there’s excitement to develop new IP, but there is still a ton of love for Uncharted and The Last of Us, and I think you’ll see both kinds of projects from us in the future.”

The standalone multiplayer project for The Last of Us is presently in development, and leaks have strongly hinted that a remake of the first game is also in the works. According to the reports, SIE Bend Studio was working on a new uncharted game under Naughty Dog’s oversight at one point, but that project was canned, with Bend instead moving to its own new open-world title.

Neil Druckmann, the creator of The Last of Us and a co-president of Naughty Dog, has previously stated that the studio’s next big project might be the third game in the series or a completely new IP. According to Druckmann, The Last of Us Part 3 already has a rough story structure.
