The birth rate in China has decreased to its lowest for 70 years in China.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the birthrate in 2019 was 10.48 per thousand.

The number of births decreased by 580,000 to 14.65 million in 2019.

Despite easing the ‘one-child policy’ in China, the birth rate has been decreasing for years.

However, the statistics bureau said that China’s population went 1.4 billion last year from 1.39 bn despite low birth rate.

The death rate last year was 7.14 per thousand-natural growth went to 3.34%.

The Chinese government had enforced the ‘one-child policy’ nationwide in 1979. People had to pay a heavy price if they violate rules, including forced abortions.

However, the law was lifted in 201. The government allowed to have two children because of the gender imbalance that resulted from that law.

Officials say that most people cannot afford more than one child, or other changes have not been made such as an increase in paternity leave, monetary support for child care, etc.

Note that at least 16, 787 children will be born in Pakistan on New Year’s first Day, said estimates from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The agency believes 2020’s first baby will be born in Fiji and that globally, over half of all births on January 1 will take place, besides Pakistan, in 7 other countries: India ( 67,385), China (46,299), Nigeria (26,039), Indonesia (13,020), the United States of America )(10,452), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (10,247), and Ethiopia (8,493).
