The actual stars of the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday night were the guest actor and actress winners.

For his participation on Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, Nathan Lane received the outstanding guest actor in a comedy series award. After receiving six prior “guest” category nominations, it was the actor’s first victory.

Last month, Lane discussed how he became the most nominated guest actor in TV history during an interview on The View. When you realize I’ve never actually won, it sort of slows down the excitement, said Lane, 66. “Obviously, it’s a joy and a delight and it sounds very impressive,” Lane said. My pronouns are “he,” “he,” and “his,” and I seem to use the adverbs “almost,” “almost,” and “not quite” a lot.

He defeated fellow contenders Sam Richardson for Ted Lasso, Christopher McDonald for Hacks, Bill Hader for Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sam Carmichael for Saturday Night Live, and James Lance for Ted Lasso.

For her work on Hacks, Laurie Metcalf won the award for best comedy series guest actress.

This is Metcalf’s fourth Emmy triumph; for Roseanne in the middle of the 1990s, she won three straight awards for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.

Along with Jane Lynch for Only Murders in the Building, Harriet Sansom Harris for Hacks, Kaitlin Olsen for Hacks, and Harriet Walter for Ted Lasso, she was nominated.

For his work on Euphoria, Colman Domingo received the award for outstanding guest actor in a drama series.

In his victory speech, Domingo said, “A lot of compassion led me to this platform, people who love me, people who raise me up. Thank you to those people.” Ral Domingo was also thanked by Domingo, saying, “This is for you, my darling Ral,” after receiving the gift.

He was up against Alexander Skarsgrd for Succession, Adrien Brody for Succession, James Cromwell for Succession, Arian Moayed for Succession, Tom Pelphrey for Ozark, and others.
