Coronavirus live updates: “younger people are not spared”
WHO warns that younger people must stop socializing and communicating with old people, as youngsters are not immune to the deadly Covid-19.
The World Health Organization’s Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has threatened young people that their choices can be “the difference between life and death for someone else”.
Note that over 11,000 people have lost their lives due to the contagious respiratory disease. In addition to this, there are around 250,000 cases of Covid-19 worldwide.
The WHO chief has his remarks after reports came out which mentioned that youngsters are being more self-satisfied about health alerts due to more cases reported among older people.
Mr. Tedros addressed an online conference from WHO headquarters in Geneva. He said, “Although older people are hardest hit, younger people are not spared.”
He added: “I have a message for young people: You are not invincible, this virus could put you in hospital for weeks or even kill you. Even if you don’t get sick the choices you make about where you go could be the difference between life and death for someone else.”
He also talked about the developments seen in the central Chinese city of Wuhan from where the virus spread.
He said that this provided “hope for the rest of the world that even the most severe situation can be turned around”.
Study shows that people of all ages can contract the virus. However, older and ill people are more prone to disease.
