Terrorists attacked in a restaurant in Baidoa town of Somalia, killing at least six people and wounding several others.

In another attack, a suicide bomber struck near a port in the capital, Mogadishu, injuring at least seven people, the BBC reported.

According to the report, Al-Shehab terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for both attacks.

The government of Somalia has been facing al-Shabab attacks for almost a decade, and so far a large number of civilians have been killed.

Al-Shabab said in a statement that their target in Baidoa was tax collectors and soldiers and that they were meeting at a restaurant.

They claimed that two soldiers had also been killed in the attack, but local officials said the dead were civilians.

Police say officers opened fire on a vehicle at a checkpoint in Mogadishu when it did not stop despite a signal.

Police said the suicide bomber was driving and wanted to hit the vehicle at a check post set up in front of the port but was shot dead and the vehicle blew up.

Two policemen and five passers-by were injured in the incident, police said.

“Metal debris fell on us inside the port and we heard gunfire,” said a port worker.

Earlier, a car bomb blast near the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in December 2019 killed at least 76 people and injured dozens.

Abdul Qadir Abdul Rahman, director of the private ambulance service Amin, told the media that “two Turkish nationals were among the dead, but we do not yet know if they were passers-by or living in the area.”

The deadliest attack in Somalia‘s history took place in October 2017 in Mogadishu, where a truck bomb killed 512 people and injured 295.
