China has decided to release five Indians who were detained in a region bordering Tibet earlier this month, sources reported on Saturday.
According to the details, the five Indians were Indian intelligence agents who dressed as hunters.
On Tuesday, the news of the five people gone missing from the state of Arunachal Pradesh started to emerge, however, an Indian minister said that they had been found in China as confirmed by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
Their disappearance had started a dispute among the two countries which resulted in a border confrontation that week in the western Himalayas. Both India and China accused each other of firing in the air.
During a meeting in Moscow on Thursday, Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar decided to de-escalate the border tensions.
The bilateral relations between India and China started to get tense after a dispute over Ladakh in June.
China and India have blamed each other for infuriating clashes between the two countries at Ladakh. At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed in fighting between armies of the two countries.
The Indian military said that both China and India suffered casualties, but there has been no word on numbers from China. The Indian military said that it’s several troops “were critically injured in the line of duty”.
It also claimed that injured soldiers were also “exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high altitude terrain “.
