“Russian-American political dialogue is at an unprecedented low level. Trust is undermined, cooperation is collapsing even on issues of obvious mutual interest. Communication between the parties is limited today,” Antonov said on the air of the Bolshaya Igra (“Big Game”) show on Channel One, adding that the dialogue is “limited to the discussion of technical issues,” Sputnik reported.

The ambassador also stated that the parties are presently not engaging in strategic stability conversation, calling the situation “wrong” because the “world expects concrete actions” from the US and Russia.

Antonov went on to say that he is “unaware” of any unofficial talks between Moscow and Washington.

The US State Department restated its position that the crisis could cease immediately if Russia ends its military action in Ukraine, but added, “We don’t see any signs of that right now.”

Blinken emphasised that the US will continue to support Ukraine for as long as the crisis lasts, and that the country will have all it needs to defend itself against Russia.

Russia initiated a “special military operation” in Ukraine on February 24 after Donetsk and Luhansk reportedly requested assistance in defending themselves against claimed Ukrainian force strikes. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the operation is purely aimed at Ukrainian military facilities, and no civilians are in danger.

The US, together with over 40 other Allies and partner countries, is trying to accelerate delivery of armaments and equipment critical to Ukraine’s defence.

Since February 24, over USD 3.9 billion in US armaments and equipment delivered has been vital in assisting Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On Wednesday, US Vice President Joe Biden revealed a new military support package for Ukraine, which includes HIMARS missile systems.

“Today, I am announcing a significant new security assistance package to provide timely and critical aid to the Ukrainian military,” Biden said in a statement.
