French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged unwavering efforts to secure the release of numerous hostages held by Hamas, the Palestinian group, following their recent assault on Israel.

In an emotional address to the nation on Thursday, Macron reassured the French public that France would leave no stone unturned in bringing their citizens safely back home.

During the Hamas attack, at least 13 French citizens lost their lives, and 17 more individuals, including both children and adults, are still unaccounted for and are suspected to be held as hostages.

Macron affirmed, “France will never abandon its children,” underlining his dedication to their safety. Currently, it is estimated that around 150 people are being held hostage by Hamas.

Macron’s commitment to securing the release of these hostages is a response to the appeals from the affected families. Batsheva Yahalomi, whose 12-year-old son has been missing since the attack, urged French intervention to reunite her son and others with their families.

She commended France for its generosity and compassion and expressed hope that President Macron would take decisive action to resolve this distressing situation.

Macron strongly condemned Hamas for their violent actions during the attack on Israel, characterizing their actions as driven by hatred and cruelty in his speech.

Macron also emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself against groups like Hamas but stressed the importance of protecting innocent civilians. He called for a resolute yet equitable response to terrorism, where justice remains a crucial component.

Furthermore, Macron reiterated France’s robust support for a two-state solution in the Israel-Hamas conflict. He emphasized the necessity of averting an endless cycle of war and working toward enduring peace.

Macron also underscored that terrorism should not supplant efforts to achieve peace, as there exist established conditions for a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

Tensions have been on the rise. Macron has heightened police protection for 582 religious and cultural sites to ensure safety in France. He also cautioned against conflating support for the Palestinian cause with endorsing terrorism, deeming it a moral, political, and strategic misstep.

French anti-terror investigators have commenced an inquiry into the Hamas attack on Israel. They are scrutinizing crimes like murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping, including those involving minors, perpetrated by a “terrorist organization.”
