German prosecutors said Monday that they have arrested a suspected member of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, accusing him of procuring components for drones believed to be used in attacks on Israel.

Prosecutors said in a statement on Sunday that they had arrested a Lebanese man named Fadel Z. He is “strongly suspected of membership in a foreign terrorist organization.”

The man is believed to have “procured components, particularly engines for the assembly of drones” which “were supposed to be exported to Lebanon and used in terrorist attacks on Israel,” they added.

The prosecutors stated that the man was suspected of joining Hezbollah “no later than in summer 2016” and that authorities apprehended him in the town of Salzgitter in Lower Saxony province.

Since early October, the Israeli military has engaged in regular cross-border fire with Hezbollah. The Shiite Muslim movement has been supporting its ally Hamas following the group’s attack on Israel on October 7, which sparked conflict in the Gaza Strip.
