Germany affirms its consent for the delivery of Leopard 1 combat vehicles to Ukraine.
The process of delivering offensive armored vehicles to Kyiv and reinforcing its military capabilities against Russia’s invasion has started with the German government giving manufacturers permission to transport Leopard 1 battle tanks there.
”I can confirm that an export license has been issued,” Germany’s government spokesperson, Steffen Hebestreit, announced Friday.
German newspaper claimed earlier on Friday that the German government has authorized the shipment of Leopard 1 tanks from industrial inventories to Ukraine.
Germany decided to send 14 Leopard 2 combat tanks to Ukraine in January under pressure from NATO partners, a move that Kyiv hopes will turn the tide of battle.
An important turning point in the conflict that has lasted almost a year was the decision of US and German commanders to send tank contingents to Ukraine.
