Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro lineup could feature a thicker design, larger batteries and a major camera upgrade, according to recent leaks ahead of the expected September launch event.
The latest details have emerged from Chinese social media platform Weibo, where tipsters have shared possible design and hardware changes for Apple’s next premium smartphones.
According to leaks, the iPhone 18 Pro may come with a thicker aluminum frame and a larger rear camera housing compared with the current iPhone 17 Pro. Apple is also expected to continue using an aluminum alloy frame instead of returning to titanium.
The leaked information suggests the iPhone 18 Pro could measure between 9.9mm and 10.9mm thick, making it noticeably thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro, which is 8.75mm thick.
The increase in size may be linked to a new camera system. Reports suggest Apple could introduce its first variable aperture camera lens on an iPhone. The technology would allow the camera to adjust the amount of light entering the lens, potentially improving photography in different lighting conditions.
The new camera component is expected to cost more than the current fixed aperture system, with reports claiming production partners are preparing for increased demand.

Battery improvements are also expected across the iPhone 18 Pro series. Certification documents from China’s 3C authority reportedly show larger battery capacities for both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The iPhone 18 Pro could feature a 4,056mAh battery in its SIM version, compared with the 3,988mAh battery in the previous model. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may receive a much larger upgrade, with reports suggesting battery capacity could reach more than 5,300mAh.
Apple does not usually reveal battery capacities during product launches, instead focusing on estimated battery performance. Actual battery details are typically confirmed after independent device teardowns.
The iPhone 18 series is expected to launch in September, with reports also suggesting Apple could unveil its first foldable iPhone during the same event.
