Bandai Namco praises veteran animators behind new short film project

Project will be shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France

Bandai Namco film works from Japan is working with six major animation studios on a new project called “Pursuing the Future.

The aim is to explore new ideas and technology in Japanese animation and show how the industry can move forward. The project includes six original 3D CG animated short films, each created by Bandai Namco with a different studio.

Two of the films have already been completed. One is called “Dice with Demon, produced by Sunrise Studios and directed by Hidekazu O’Hara. The story is set in old Japan during the Heian era and follows three noblemen who play a dangerous game involving a demon. The idea is inspired by traditional Japanese art and storytelling.

The second film, Metafear, is produced by Yamatoworks and directed by Shuhei Morita. It follows a girl who is troubled by nightmares, where her fears come to life. Both films bring strong fantasy themes and creative visual styles.

Bandai Namco said the two finished films were made by highly respected veteran animators along with very skilled new creators. The company added that the project felt special and could only have come together at this point in time.

The remaining four films have not been revealed yet, but the company confirmed that international creators will also take part. The project will be shown at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.
