ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged the United States and United Kingdom to fully implement the June 18 Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU), saying the agreement is the only way forward for regional peace and stability, as Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held separate meetings with senior diplomats in Islamabad on Friday.
Despite the national holiday marking Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, the office of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar remained open. U.S. Charge d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker met with Dar, according to the reports.
During the meeting, Dar welcomed the positive direction of Pakistan, U.S. relations and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in achieving lasting peace.

The Foreign Office said Dar emphasized that the Islamabad MoU of June 18 must be implemented “in letter and spirit,” describing it as the only way forward. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and security while protecting its national interests.
The meeting came as U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Iran could face unprecedented economic isolation, with new measures expected the following week.
Dar also met with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott, their discussions covered recent regional and international developments. Dar again stressed the need for all parties to implement the Islamabad MoU fully and reaffirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way to resolve outstanding issues.

He welcomed the positive momentum in Pakistan, UK relations and recalled his recent meeting with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum in Manila. Dar also highlighted the importance of continued high level contacts between the two countries. The two sides discussed areas of mutual interest and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong also met with Dar. The foreign minister expressed condolences over the death of a Chinese mountaineer following an avalanche at Broad Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan and assured full assistance for returning the deceased’s remains.
Jiang appreciated Pakistan’s prompt support following the incident and congratulated Pakistan’s people and leadership on Independence Day. Dar and Jiang also exchanged views on regional developments and other matters of mutual interest while reaffirming the close and longstanding ties between Pakistan and China.

Earlier, Dar spoke by phone with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who conveyed Independence Day greetings to Pakistan’s leadership, government and people.
The two ministers reaffirmed the close and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Egypt and agreed to strengthen cooperation through high level contacts and institutional engagement. They also discussed regional and international developments and agreed to remain in close contact.
