Pakistan’s IT exports climb to $4.5 billion, as digital economy expands

The growth has been driven by rising demand for software development.

KARACHI: Pakistan’s information technology (IT) exports reached $4.5 billion during fiscal year 2025-26, marking another year of strong growth as the country’s digital economy continued to expand.

The latest figure is up from $3.475 billion in the previous fiscal year, reflecting steady demand for Pakistan’s technology services in international markets.

Industry experts said Pakistani technology companies are also reducing their dependence on the United States and Europe by expanding into new markets across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, including Japan and Singapore.

The growth has been driven by rising demand for software development, along with fast growing sectors such as Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Software as a Service (SaaS) and gaming.

Experts said Pakistan’s young, skilled and cost competitive workforce continues to make the country an attractive destination for global technology services.

Nagesh Devata, Senior Vice President and Head of APAC at Payoneer, said the continued growth reflects strong international demand for Pakistan’s digital services.

He added that technology companies are increasingly focusing on multiple global markets to build more diverse revenue streams.

Devata said expanding into Asia-Pacific also requires businesses to adapt to different payment systems, making reliable cross-border payment services more important for exporters.

To support Pakistani businesses, Payoneer said it is expanding its payment services by allowing exporters to receive and manage payments in several major international currencies, including the U.S. dollar, euro, British pound, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Japanese yen and Singapore dollar.

The continued growth in IT exports highlights Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its digital economy and increase its presence in global technology markets.
