According to the recent study conducted in March 2020 by online visibility management and content marketing platform SEMrush, Google search for terms related to different ways of passing the time during lockdown grew tremendously over the last month owing to the nationwide lockdown in a wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
In Pakistan there has been a huge surge in searches for online video streaming services, video conferencing apps, and gaming.
The searches grew massively across Pakistan and Surprisingly, Pakistan has also become one of the major countries where information related Coronavirus pandemic has been obtained through Google.
It should be noted that the highest Google searches in Pakistan regarding the Coronavirus were seen on March 23 and 24.
Earlier, Google provided more than $6.5 million in funding to fact-checkers and nonprofits fighting misinformation around the world, with an immediate focus on the coronavirus pandemic.
News and Information Credibility Lead at Google News Lab, Alexios Mantzarlis stated “The Google News Initiative is increasing its support for nonprofit First Draft, which provides a resource hub, training and crisis simulations for journalists covering news during times of crisis.”
“We also want to do more to surface fact-checks that address potentially harmful health misinformation more prominently to our users,” Mantzarlis said.
“We’re experimenting with how to best include a dedicated fact-check section in the COVID-19 Google News experience.”
