UN Chief asks countries in conflicts to ceasefire
Earlier on April 3, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday improved his call for a global ceasefire.
Guterres urges all parties to conflict to lay down arms and allow war-torn nations to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
The UN chief said, in a virtual press conference, “We know the pandemic is having profound social, economic and political consequences, including relating to international peace and security.”
He told reporters, “Religious leaders – including Pope Francis – have added their moral voice in support of a global ceasefire, as have citizens through grassroots mobilization online.”
Today’s threats – from #COVID19 to the climate crisis – require a global response through multilateral cooperation.
That is what the @UN continues to provide even, and especially, in these trying times.
