Provinces oppose resumption of trains, approve air operation

Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan have opposed the restoration of train and bus services, while approving the resumption of air operations.

A meeting of the National Command and Control Center (NCCOC), chaired by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Omar, discussed easing the lockdown and ending or extending the lockdown after May 9.

during the meeting Ministry of Railways proposed to resume partial train operation from May 10, which was rejected after opposition from the provinces, but the final decision will be taken at the NCC meeting to be chaired by the Prime Minister tomorrow. Sources said that Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan have opposed the resumption of train and bus services.

The NCCOC has proposed to start limited train operation of 10 trains while Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid has recommended to run 15 trains.

The provinces also opposed the proposal to revive public transport and intercity transport. The final decision on resumption of public transport and intercity transport will be taken at the NCC meeting tomorrow.

While talking to the media, Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that a proposal to start domestic flights was made in the NCCOC meeting which was approved but final approval would be given in the meeting to be chaired by the Prime Minister tomorrow.

He said that initially it has been decided to start the flight operation from three cities Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and Quetta.
