Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Wednesday that since Pakistan has complied with 26 out of 27 requirements of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) there was no justification to keep the country in the grey list.

The foreign minister, in a statement, maintained that Pakistan has fulfilled maximum technical requirements regarding FATF.

The five-day virtual meeting of the FATF began on June 21 in Paris, and will public its findings on June 25.

Qureshi stressed that India was attempting to misuse the FATF forum for political gains and propagating against Pakistan.

“Pakistan has taken concrete steps to curb money laundering and terror financing in the national interest,” the minister added.

He pointed out that Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government ‘inherited’ the FATF problem from previous governments.

“The incumbent government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan has done its best to get Pakistan out of the grey list,” Qureshi added.

The foreign minister said the world was acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts in the implementation of the FATF Action Plan.

“The steps taken by Pakistan included the promulgation of strict laws against money laundering, and freezing the assets and filing of cases against banned organizations,” he further stated.

The Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering recently improved Pakistan’s rating against money laundering and terror financing.

Pakistan European Union Joint Commission has also welcomed Pakistan’s progress in the implementation of FATF points.
