Govt vows to promote sports activities through Kamyab Jawan Programme

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar received a briefing on the projects related to sports under the umbrella of Kamyab Jawan Programme.

The Talent Hunt Youth Sports League and the establishment of the high-performance Sports Academy will be implemented through HEC in all the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan.

HEC director sports Javed Memon briefed the minister on the roadmap for the activities outlined under the projects.

The minister was informed that under the Kamyab Jawan Sports League, sporting events in 12 different sports will be organised, which will include volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, judo, boxing, badminton, hockey, football, etc. The competitions will be organised in 28 cities across the country.

Team players aged in between 15 and 25 years selected at the area levels will compete at the regional and national levels.

Young players will be selected through trails across the country and will be trained in the respective regional camps for the provincial and National Sports League competitions.

All the sports events and activities will be organised in collaboration with the Pakistan Olympics Association, National Sports Federation and the public and private higher education institutions. The Talent Hunt Scheme is expected to be launched on August 12 on the Youth International Day.

During the briefing, the establishment of academies also came under discussion and it was decided that the academies would be established in the proximity of the sports-specific talent hubs in the country.

Umar directed to finalise the modalities and implementation of the two projects on a fast-track basis and to submit the progress report within a month.

He emphasised the importance of skill development of the youth, especially encouraging women to participate in sports.
