Nasla Tower case: JI Karachi chief to appear before SC to plead residents’ case

KARACHI: Jamat-e-Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Thursday announced to appear before the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry to present the case of the residents of Nasla Tower.

Speaking to the media outside the Nasla Tower, Rehman demanded the constitution of a high-powered committee that includes the Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) and other relevant stakeholders to assist affected people. “Chief Justice should tell who is going to pay the affected,” the JI city chief questioned.

He said that today it is one building tomorrow following the precedent there will be multiple demolishment. “Did you (CJ Gulzar) apprehend the responsible Sindh Building Control Authority or Karachi Development Authority official for granting illegal lands for construction”.

The JI leader said that the city has been undercounted however, the courts did not take any notice about it because apparently, Karachi issues are not important enough.

“It has been over three years, why the Hayat Regency details haven’t yet been disclosed,” he said before adding that: “two parallel laws can’t work in this country. What is the fault of these children who are seeing their homes being razed to the ground?”

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday directed Commissioner Karachi to immediately commence the demolition of Nasla Tower located at the city’s Shahrah-e-Faisal and submit a report on the orders.

On June 16 this year the apex court had declared that the builder had encroached more land from the service road than the original 780 square yards he was allotted and had ordered to demolish the building
