LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has rejected the allegations levelled by his younger brother Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain against him and his sons for allegedly selling votes to support the coalition government.

In a series of tweets, Chaudhry Shujaat pointed out that his younger brother while talking to “some people” in Gujrat alleged that his sons had taken dollars from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

Shujaat said his sons could respond to the “repugnant” allegations but remained silent. He maintained that his son voted for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at his request and not for any monetary benefits.

“We did not ask for any ministry from anyone. I have not raised my children like this. My sons are quiet because I told them. I have taught them to always speak the truth and uphold their promises,” he added.

Chaudhry Shujaat dismissed the threat by his younger brother of forming a new party, saying that there are already hundreds in the country and a new one will make “no difference”.

The PML-Q leader also said that his sons had backed Shehbaz Sharif during the elections for the prime minister at his request and did not ask for any ministry from anyone.

Shujaat said that his brother’s allegations that MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema was responsible for the strife in the family were “immoral and based on lies”. Shujaat said he would soon visit Gujrat and respond to his brother’s remarks.

A day earlier, former federal minister Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain claimed that the sons of PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain have sought dollars from Asif Zardari to support the coalition government.

Wajahat said he had asked Shujaat to decide about parting ways with the ruling PML-N until June 30 as a majority of party workers were against it. He said they were in favour of a seat adjustment with the PTI.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has summoned a meeting of family members including Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to decide on supporting either the PTI or PML-N.

At least five meetings have been held to end differences among the family after Perviaz Elahi announced support for the PTI.

Chaudhry Shujaat extended his backing to PML-N-led federal government while his son Salik Hussain is currently a federal minister.
