According to a source who spoke to the news, the sequel to A Simple Favor is in the advanced stages of negotiation and will start filming this fall.

The Amazon Studios and Lionsgate film, a sequel to the well-liked dark comedy-thriller from 2018, will be set in Capri, Italy for the pair’s next twisted game of deceit. Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick will feature.

The majority, if not all, of the supporting actors from the original movie, will return, according to the source who spoke with the news. Paul Feig is back in the director’s chair.

Jessica Sharzer, who also authored the first movie, created the script, and Feig, 60, will also produce the movie under his Feigco Entertainment banner with Laura Fischer.

No one at Amazon Studios was available for comment. Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, Dustin Milligan, and Jean Smart also starred in A Simple Favor. A woman named Emily Nelson (Lively) unexpectedly disappears in the movie, which grossed more than $97 million at the worldwide box office on an estimated $20 million budget. The movie is an adaptation of a 2017 book of the same name by Darcey Bell.

Kendrick, 37, plays Stephanie, a mother blogger who tries to determine why and how her best friend Emily disappears, in the movie. She learns that Emily isn’t exactly who she claimed to be during the process.

“I’ve actually read the script now,” Kendrick told Courtney Lopez on the Jan. 17 episode of news of the sequel, “and it’s so good.”

The actress said to Lopez that her character “got like a little bit smarter in her,” but insisted that “at the end of the day, she’s still Stephanie.”

In other Lively news, the 35-year-old actress introduced a new hair color on her Instagram Story on Thursday, switching from blonde to brown in the midst of her most recent role reveal in It Ends with Us.

The Gossip Girl alum is slated to co-star in the movie version of bestselling author Colleen Hoover’s book alongside Jane the Virgin actor Justin Baldoni, 39.
