The most recent Bollywood propaganda film, Mission Majnu, has drawn criticism ever since it was released, with many asking for a boycott of the movie on social media. It has also been charged with misrepresenting the facts and figures in the history of the actual mission and with failing to give the real heroes enough credit. On social media, a lot of famous people have also attacked the movie for its harsh and stereotyped representation of Pakistanis.

Adnan Siddiqui questions ‘How much misrepresentation is too much misrepresentation?’ as he labels the film “factually inaccurate.”

In addition, he questioned the film’s depiction of the event, the characters, and the lack of recognition given to the true heroes.

Siddiqui went on to say, “The portrayal of Pakistanis in ‘Mission Majnu‘ is not only offensive but also factually inaccurate. The main character’s saviour complex would have been more pronounced if the villain was portrayed as an equal. A weak antagonist only serves to accentuate a weak protagonist.”

He stated, “Poor story, poorer execution, poorest research. Next time, come and visit us. We are good hosts. Will show you how we look like, dress up and live.”Will demonstrate our appearance, attire, and way of life.”

Bollywood movie productions have an increasing trend of portraying anti-Pakistan sentiment. Mission Majnu by Sidharth Malhotra is not the first movie to portray Pakistan and its history incorrectly. In the 2018 movie Raazi, Alia Bhatt also has the role of a spy.

Another comparable movie, Bhuj: The Pride of India, starring Ajay Devgan, was released in 2021. It included a performance of the well-known song “Zaalima Coca-Cola” by Madam Noor Jehan, which was condemned for its satirical use in the setting of the movie.
