LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday formed a committee for the release of party workers, who had been detained by the Punjab police on March 18th during a sudden operation at PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s residence at Zaman Park, Lahore.

According to the details, PTI leader Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed had been appointed as the head of committee, along with eleven other members.

The rest of the members include Nasir Salman, Waqas Amjad, Rana Mudassar, Yusuf Wayan, Waqar Mushtaq, Mian Bashir, Mehmood Joya, Saeed Bhatta and Khalid Sindhu and others.

The committee is aimed at immediate release of PTI activists, arrested by the police after brutal baton charge.

A sudden operation was launched at former prime minister’s residence, while he was on his way to appear before the court.

The anti-encroachment team accompanied by the Lahore Police broke the door and wall of Imran Khan’s house using a crane and entered the premises.

The barriers and tents installed in Zaman Park had been removed by the police using heavy machinery, after which the clashes between PTI activists and police worsen; leaving several officers and citizens injured.

More than 40 party workers had been arrested by the police and moved to different prisons.

The police made a list comprising of A, B and C category, to arrest the workers.

Under the categories, the police decided upon arresting 186 workers in the city division, 143 workers in cantt division, 85 from civil lines and 97 from Iqbal town.

Apart from this, 134 arrests from Sadar Division and 120 from Model Town Division had also been a part of decision.

Besides, the police also geared against the ones who funded and provided food to PTI workers at Zaman Park.

Following which, 88 persons for providing funding, 21 for providing transport, 121 for gathering workers and 30 for providing food were planned to be arrested.

The police later claimed to recover weapons, petrol bombs, and alcohol during the raid, however the PTI leadership refuted the allegations.

Imran Khan filed a contempt of court petition against the police action at his residence in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
