Achakzai, Ghazala Gola elected as Balochistan speaker, deputy speaker

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Captain (retd) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai was elected speaker unopposed while Ghazala Gola of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was also elected unopposed as deputy speaker of the Balochistan Assembly

It should be noted that 57 newly-elected members of the Balochistan Assembly took oath yesterday. The full strength of the assembly members is 65.

Balochistan Assembly Secretary Tahir Shah Kakar announced the unopposed election of both candidates.

The speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly will take oath of office today.

Earlier, The outgoing Speaker National Assembly, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, announced the schedule for the elections of the speaker and deputy speaker’s slots.

The elections for the posts of speaker and deputy speaker are scheduled to take place on Friday (March 1, 2024).

According to Article 53 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the National Assembly is mandated to elect a Speaker and Deputy Speaker at its first meeting following a general election, with the process taking precedence over any other business.
