According to sources, the federal government has taken a significant step by extending relief on five crucial commodities at utility stores. This decision comes after the conclusion of the Ramadan relief package, signaling ongoing support for consumers.

Beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) are set to receive a substantial monthly subsidy amounting to Rs. 3 billion on essential items including sugar, flour, ghee, pulses, and rice. These subsidies aim to alleviate the financial strain on vulnerable populations and ensure the availability of these key products at affordable prices.

Under this arrangement, sugar will be priced at Rs. 109 per kilogram at utility stores, making it more accessible to a wider segment of the population. Additionally, flour will be retailed at Rs. 648 per 10 kilograms, further contributing to easing the burden of household expenses.

The subsidy extension also encompasses ghee, which will now be available at Rs. 393 per kilogram. Furthermore, a discount of Rs. 25 per kilogram will be applied to both pulses and rice, making these staples more affordable for consumers.

This relief package is scheduled to continue until June 2024, providing a sustained period of support for those in need. By extending these subsidies, the government aims to ensure food security, mitigate inflationary pressures, and enhance the overall well-being of citizens.

The decision reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the public, particularly in managing essential expenses. It underscores a proactive approach to social welfare and economic stability, demonstrating responsiveness to the needs of the populace.
