Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday predicted a big upset if Premier Imran Khan fails to get vote of confidence from the parliament.

Speaking to BOL News, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed expressed his concerns on the consequences if the Prime Minister Imran Khan is unable to get a vote of confidence today in the National Assembly.

He also said that the Prime Minister will address the Assembly after winning. Adding that, strict action will be taken against those members who will not mark their presence in the hall.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that, “The Elections are the beauty of democracy, Opposition will be defeated.”

It should be noted here that President Dr Arif Alvi has convened a session of the lower house at 12:15 pm during which PM Imran would seek a vote of confidence from the parliamentarians in an apparent move to counter the opposition’s ability to challenge the legitimacy of his government.

How Many votes requited to win?

To stay in power, a total of 172 votes in the 342-member house are needed. The ruling coalition had 181 members but after the resignation of one of its MNA, Faisal Vawda, the number has come down to 180. The opposition coalition has 160 members in the house.

Party-wise, the PTI had 157 members in NA but following the resignation of a lawmaker, it has now 156 members while its allies include seven MNAs from MQM, five each from the PML-Q and the BAP, three from the GDA and one MNA each from the AML and the JWP.
