RAHIM YAR KHAN: A patient suspected of Congo virus has breathed his last, while three other suspected patients are under treatment at the Sheikh Zayed Medical College (SZMC), a tertiary healthcare institution, in Rahim Yar Khan, Bol news reported.

Residents of the area apprised that the deceased, Haider Ali Qassab, was a resident of Basti Amanat Ali and he had sever fever for last four days.

The spokesperson of SZMC said three more patients suspected to be suffering from Congo virus were shifted in isolation ward of the hospital. He said samples of their blood had been sent to the National Institute of Health for inspection and it could be confirmed after receiving their report if they were suffering from Congo virus or not.

“The under treatment patients include Mubashir, 22, Hamza, 17, and Fida Hussain, 22,” he said.

The spokesperson said the health department has started taking precautionary measures to deal with the virus. Congo virus fever is a viral haemorrhagic fever usually transmitted by ticks.

At least13 cases of death had been reported in Karachi due to Congo virus in 2019 till August.

DG Health Sindh Dr. Masood Solangi had on August 20, 2019, stated that 45 year old Syed Asad Ali Rizvi was admitted to the emergency ward of Indus Hospital, where he lost the battle of life after being diagnosed with Congo virus.

Resident of Thatta, 24 year old, Hamal Jammu and 24 year old Shabbir, resident of Machh Goth also passed away at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre after they were taken to hospital in a critical condition, where doctors diagnosed them with Congo virus.
