ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday met Ambassador of Qatar Muhammad bin Abdul Rehman Ambassador of Qatar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. They discussed FIFA World Cup among other matters of mutual interest.

The Qatari envoy extended invitation to Bilawal Zardari to attend the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The FM said he was pleased to meet the ambassador of Qatar. “I appreciate the invitation from brother @MBA_AlThani_ to attend FIFA World Cup in Qatar,” he said congratulating the ambassador upon Qatar’s hosting the FIFA World Cup.

Bilawal said Pakistan was proud of Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup. “(We) Also take pride in Pakistan’s contribution for security, workforce and of course the made in Pakistan footballs,” he maintained. He said Pakistan saw relations with Qatar with respect.

Bilawal Zardari said the historical relations between Pakistan and Qatar were based on Islamic brotherhood, mutual trust and cooperation.

On November 23, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said Pakistan stood in solidarity with Qatar’s Emir and people as the country faced propaganda while hosting the FIFA World Cup.

“Unfortunate that Qatar is being subjected to a barrage of propaganda as host of FIFA World Cup,” he had said in a tweet.

Shehbaz Sharif had said instead Qatar should rather be commended for wonderful arrangements for the mega event and for being a promoter of global peace and development.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had extended best wishes to Qatar’s leadership and the people for hosting the biggest football event – the first-ever in the Middle East.

“On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, I extend our best wishes to His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir and brotherly people of Qatar for hosting the football World Cup,” the prime minister had written on Twitter.
