ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned live or recorded coverage of any kind of rally, public gathering or procession by any party, organisation or individual on March 18, including from the Judicial Complex, Islamabad.

The PEMRA issued the notice to the all satellite TV channels licensees. It is pertinent here to mention that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is appearing before the court at the Judicial Complex today.

The PEMRA warned that in case of non-compliance with the order, license would be suspended under Section 30 (3) of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007, without any show cause notice in the public interest along with other enabling provisions of law.

It said TV channels were showing live footages of violent mob attacks on police and law enforcing agencies. Such footages were seen on screens without any editorial insight during recent standoff between political party workers and law enforcing agencies in Lahore, wherein the violent mob used petrol bombs, injuring armless policemen and blazing police vehicles, it alleged.
