In a significant development, Pakistan’s federal cabinet, under the leadership of caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, has greenlit a substantial Ramadan Relief Package for the year 2024, amounting to Rs7.49 billion. The approval, obtained during a recent cabinet meeting, underscores the government’s dedication to providing financial assistance to citizens during the sacred month of Ramzan.

The allocated funds, which have received the nod from the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), primarily target beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), with a proposed subsidy of Rs7,492.75 million. This move is in line with the budget set for the fiscal year 2023–24, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable segments of society.

Additionally, the ECC has approved a proposal concerning the import of wheat and the export of wheat flour under the Export Facilitation Scheme 2021, as presented by the Ministry of Commerce. This decision aims to ensure stability in wheat supply and facilitate wheat flour exports, contributing to the country’s economic growth.

Furthermore, the ECC has given the green light to a summary addressing Individual Tariff Rationalisation Proposals from Different Sectors for Review of Custom Duties, presented by the Ministry of Commerce’s Tariff Policy Wing. This emphasizes the government’s strategic approach to tariff rationalization, aligned with broader trade policy objectives.

In another significant move, the ECC has approved a summary from the Power Division regarding the Commissioning of 1263 MW CCPP Punjab Thermal Power (Pvt) Limited, Jhang (PPTL). This decision reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing power generation capacity and meeting the country’s energy demands effectively.
