Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be celebrated across Pakistan on Friday, June 7, as astronomers predict that the moon marking the start of Zilhaj will most likely be sighted on May 28.

Famous astronomer Dr. Faheem Hashmi explained that the new moon will not be seen on May 27 because it will only be 11 hours old by sunset, which is too early to spot with the naked eye.

But by May 28, the moon will be more than 35 hours old, making it much easier to see across Pakistan. Based on these calculations, the Islamic month of Zilhaj is likely to start on May 29, and Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be on June 7, which is the 10th day of Zilhaj.

Eid-ul-Adha is one of the two main Islamic festivals and honors the story of Prophet Ibrahim, who was ready to sacrifice his son to follow God’s command.

The final decision about the moon sighting will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which officially announces the start of Islamic months in Pakistan after collecting reports from different areas.
