The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has teamed up with provincial governments to modernize civil documentation by introducing a digital birth and death registration system across hospitals and healthcare centers in Pakistan.

This step forms part of the Uraan Pakistan program, which focuses on utilizing technology to drive effective governance and economic growth.

NADRA is upgrading the Digital Birth and Death Registration System to ensure the detailed tracking and maintenance of life events, as part of a collaborative effort with the World Bank under the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework.

This modern system will enable hospitals and healthcare facilities to directly register births and deaths from the collected data, ensuring timely updates in the national database.

The innovative projects for digital ID and the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP) will also receive support.

These statistics will play a key role in fostering technology development and economic events in the country, advancing Pakistan’s Digital Birth and Death Registration System as part of the Uraan Pakistan program.

NADRA and the provincial governments have already signed and executed agreements as part of the Uraan Pakistan program, including with Sindh and Balochistan. Additional agreements are likely to be executed in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Earlier, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) took a key step by offering first-time applicants the opportunity to obtain their national ID cards free of charge. This initiative aimed to make ID registration easier for Pakistani citizens. Additionally, NADRA integrated smart features into the non-chip ID card system, making it more prominent.

Under the new policy, individuals applying for their first Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) visit NADRA centers and receive their non-chip ID card free of cost.

Through a swift and efficient registration process, applicants can receive their free ID card within 15 working days.
