Karachi: A recent study from West Virginia University in the United States has revealed a significant finding: electronic cigarettes, or vaping, are more addictive than nicotine gum. This research adds to growing concerns about e-cigarettes.
Initially, these devices were introduced to help people quit smoking and avoid serious health risks. However, over time, they have become popular even among those who never smoked, creating a new form of addiction.
The study involved 16 young adults, aged 18 to 24, who were either current or recent smokers. They abstained from nicotine overnight, then used either a vape or nicotine gum for 30 minutes to compare effects.
Results showed vape users experienced notably fewer nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms compared to those using nicotine gum. They also reported higher satisfaction levels.
This heightened addictiveness is partly due to the less bitter form of nicotine used in vapes. Responding to such concerns, the British government has already announced plans to ban disposable vapes and limit flavor options, aiming to make them less appealing to young people.
