Karachi faces severe water crisis

Karachi is facing one of its worst water crises as major parts of the city have been left without water, making daily life extremely difficult for residents. The crisis has severely affected central, eastern, and Malir districts, both partially and completely.

According to officials, the shortage began after a main water supply line burst near the University of Karachi. As a result, major hydrants in Sakhi Hassan, NIPA, and Safora have been shut down, disrupting the water tanker service for residents of Central, East, and Malir districts.

Several areas, including Federal B Area, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Azizabad, and Liaquatabad, are suffering from an acute water shortage, with residents struggling to get even a drop. Gulshan-e-Iqbal and many parts of Malir are also facing severe scarcity.

Frequent pipeline bursts have thrown the city’s water distribution system into disarray. Sources say that an investigation should be conducted to determine why the main lines are repeatedly bursting, warning that such incidents may increase during the winter season.

A spokesperson for the Karachi Water Corporation said that repair work on the damaged line has been completed and that the situation is expected to improve within the next 24 hours.
